Non-partisan: the Democrat’s favorite word. Every time I’ve ever gotten into an argument with a Democrat—be it about social issues or economic—they have brought up statistics which they claim to have gotten from a “non-partisan” organization. They immediately cast aside any evidence I bring to the table, claiming that it’s biased or partisan, no matter where it came from. But anything a Democrat uses is pure and free from the taint of partisanship.
Aside from the fact that bias doesn’t determine the validity of statistics, but rather bias determines how they are used, the organizations claimed as non-partisan are often nothing of the sort. For example, according to Capitol City Project:
“Families USA (FUSA)–an organization that describes itself as a ‘national nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans’–was given a $1.1 million grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on October 4, 2013, to gather ‘success stories’ of Americans dealing with Obamacare and distribute them to the media who often refer to them as an ‘independent’ group. This is part of a greater upcoming effort to bolster the perception of the lowly health care law.”
So, a supposedly non-partisan organization has been propped up by the Obama administration to gather stories that make Obamacare look like less of a massive failure. This group is often referred to by the media as non-partisan. See what money can do?
Here’s the thing: even after this story has broken, any and every Liberal will still claim FUSA as an independent group. You could make 1000 copies of this story, and have the leader of FUSA declare from the roof tops that they are a biased organization, but if a Democrat needs a statistic or a story, they will claim FUSA is straight up.
It’s times like these that I become annoyed with politics. I know that Liberals are masters of semantics, but when something is so straightforward, it drives me crazy to know that the most ardent Lib out there will still refer to worthless organizations like FUSA during debates.
Stories like this strengthen my belief that arguing with Liberals—if you can even reach one—is best done with tactical maneuvering, rather than statistics, and references. If you can use a Liberal’s argument against them, if you can attack strategy, and dismantle them based only on logic, you have the best chance of winning. That is why it’s important to learn the tactics of logic. If you only have yourself, and no stats or stories, you still need to be able to take down a Liberal argument.
Liberals don’t have logic, we do. Let’s use it, because “non-partisan” organizations aren’t always trustworthy.
